Recent public discussion around opioid use in Taranaki has reinforced the importance of safe, evidence-based analgesic prescribing and effective pain management. This practical CME will take a broader look at analgesic stewardship — from opioids and non-opioid analgesics to emerging concerns around ketamine, gabapentinoids, methoxyflurane and concomitant benzodiazepine use.
The session will also explore the challenging territory where pain and distress overlap, including practical approaches to managing requests for escalating medication while supporting patients safely and effectively.

Risks associated with ketamine, gabapentinoids, methoxyflurane and concomitant benzodiazepine use
